GAME REPORT

Hungary Suffocate Portugal In Premiere

9. David Vojvoda (Hungary)
David Vojvoda recorded 20 points for Hungary

Hungary travelled to Portugal and came up with the best defensive showing of Day 1 in the EuroBasket 2015 2nd Qualifying Round to secure a comfy 58-38 victory in Group E action.

While Hungary were not sharp offensively, they kept their hosts to a meagre 28.8% from the floor, which included 19% from three-point range.

With David Vojvoda pouring in eight points during the opening exchanges, Hungary jumped to a 14-2 lead after less than six minutes of play and never looked back.

The guests did not lower their guard on defence at any point and extended the gap to 39-20 by the half-time interval, even enjoying a 56-30 advantage, the biggest all night, midway through the final frame.

Vojvoda finished with 20 points and added nine rebounds for good measure, while Akos Keller was the embodiment of efficiency for the winners and collected a double-double of 15 points, on seven-for-nine from the floor, and 13 boards.

Fábio Lima was the only Portuguese player to score in double-digits and picked up 12 points as he hit all four of his team's three-pointers, on six attempts.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes: Portugal vs. Hungary

Akos Keller, Hungary
"I would like to congratulate all our team. We played really good defence and left everything on the court. It was our first win and I'm really happy about it."

Stojan Ivkovic, Hungary Coach
"We are a new team and young without international experience. Every win is important for us and we were able to control the game. All of the circumstances were very good. Congratulations to the organisers."

Mário Fernandes, Portugal
"We didn't start well and we were chasing the result during the entire game. We should play always like we did in the second half."

Mário Palma, Portugal Coach
"It was a really bad game for us. Not a good start. We have a very young team and I need to get them playing and winning."
