GAME REPORT

Italy Qualify To EuroBasket In Style

13. Luigi Datome (Italy)
Luigi Datome paced Italy with a game-high 24 points

Italy led Switzerland from start to finish on Wednesday to secure an 80-65 win on the road and claim first place in Group G of the EuroBasket 2015 2nd Qualifying Round.

The Azzurri will therefore compete in next year's big event as will Russia, who finished in second place in the group, above Switzerland.

Italy, who shot 60% from two-point range on the night, used a 10-0 run midway through the opening quarter to establish a 23-9 lead on a Riccardo Cervi dunk 2:47 from the first buzzer.

The guests maintained the gap at double-digit levels from that point onwards, reaching the half-time interval on a 48-29 lead.

Switzerland reduced to 50-37 on a Marko Mladjan free throw 7:06 from the end of the third period but Luigi Datome drilled a triple with 2:19 remaining to the third buzzer to cap off an 11-1 Italian burst and raise Italy's lead to 61-38.

Switzerland enjoyed their most productive stretch in the game after that point but still Italy kept their hosts at arm's length until the end with ease.

Datome led all scorers with 24 points and added seven rebounds, Andrea Cinciarini had 17 points and Marco Cusin chipped in with 11 points and eight boards.

For Switzerland, Marko Mladjan collected a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds and Roberto Kovac added 14 points.
