Without any fanfare, the Croatian Basketball Federation (HKS) confirmed on Thursday that senior national team head coach Jasmin Repesa will remain at the helm to steer the side into next summer's FIBA Basketball World Cup.

In an official statement, the HKS announced that the federation board has appointed Repesa as coach 'until the completion of the 2014 World Cup', but no further details as to the duration or other terms of the agreement between the two parties have emerged.

Repesa, who is also the coach of Croatian club Cedevita Zagreb, was handed the reins of the national team for a second time in his career prior to the EuroBasket 2013 Qualification Round, which took place in summer 2012.

Croatia were impressive in that qualifying campaign, finishing top of their group with a perfect 8-0 record despite the fact they had a number of high-profile absences.

Repesa was praised for re-introducing a winning mentality in a side that had disappointed its fans at EuroBasket 2011 with a shocking first-round exit, but his continuity in the role was put into doubt when he took over Spanish club Unicaja Malaga later that summer.

Eventually, the 52-year-old tactician and the Andalusian side parted ways at the end of the 2013 season and Repesa was cleared to coach Croatia at the EuroBasket in Slovenia.

Ghosts of failures past appeared when the Croatians suffered an embarrassing 68-40 defeat at the hands of two-time champions Spain in the opener, but Repesa's men reacted by stringing together an 8-0 winning streak that saw them reach the semi-finals of the EuroBasket for the first time since 1995.

In addition to the fourth spot at the recent EuroBasket, Repesa had also led Croatia to sixth place in the competition on two occasions during his first spell in charge, which lasted from 2005 to 2009.

At club level, the experienced tactician has conquered four Croatian championship titles with storied club Cibona Zagreb, two Turkish league titles with Tofas Bursa and the Italian Serie A crown with Fortitudo Bologna.
