GAME REPORT

French Still Perfect But Imperfect

Defending champions France ended the group phase unbeaten after cruising past France 86-61 in Lille.

Turning Point: Israel, resting Omri Casspi, Lior Eliyahu and Gal Mekel, came from 17 down to make a run as their zone knocked France's shooters off their stride, But Rudy Gobert stood tall in a 7-0 run late in the third period that gave France room to breathe.

Stats Don't Lie: In the fourth quarter, France converted 10-of-18 and Israel 5-of-13. But the French again needed their bench to come up big with 54 of their 85 points added in reserve.

Game Hero: Gobert had 15 points and 10 rebounds and is emerging as a world-class force on the international stage. He has been consistent so far when others have been up and down. Tony Parker here was scoreless, shooting 0-of-5. Against a stronger opponent, that could have been costlier.

Bottom Line: France meet Turkey in the last 16 with Israel - led here by 13 points from Raviv Limonad - facing Italy. The holders have still not entirely convinced despite their 5-0 record. Israel could be a threat for the quarter-finals yet.

They Said: "Consistency must be the focus for us. We need to make that happen for 40 minutes. We have to be completely focused. Turkey won't be easy" - Nicolas Batum of France.
