Spain overcame their opening night loss to Serbia and picked up their first victory at EuroBasket 2015 in utterly convincing fashion as they rolled over Turkey 104-77 in Group B Day 2 action on Sunday in Berlin.
Turning Point: Spain jumped in the driver's seat right from the start and pulled away decisively on the back of a 20-6 burst midway through the second frame.
Stats Don't Lie: Spain dominated all aspects of the clash but their superiority on Sunday was especially evident in their outlandish field goal percentage, 64.5% from the floor. The two-time EuroBasket champions ran in the open court, dished out a collective 24 assists and scored a big amount of their buckets in secondary transition.
Game Hero: Pau Gasol registered 21 points on 7-for-11 from the floor, seven rebounds and two blocks in just 23 minutes of action and went to the bench late in the third quarter for a well-deserved rest. Fernando San Emeterio and team captain Felipe Reyes came off the bench and were inspiring for Spain in the second-quarter burst which determined the outcome.
Bottom Line: Both Spain and Turkey now stand at 1-1 in Group B but will go into the rest day on an entirely different mindset. Spain could not have showed a more improved image than their game against Serbia, where they had only shot 3-of-19 from three-point range. Turkey appeared tired after their hard-earned Saturday win over Italy and the rest day seems to be coming at the right moment for them to regroup.
