Montenegro snapped a two-game losing streak in the EuroBasket 2015 2nd Qualifying Round on Sunday, after holding on to pick up an 84-73 victory versus Bulgaria in Day 5 action.

Following this result the Montenegrins have improved to 3-2 and set up a showdown with the Netherlands on the final day for second place in Group B, after Israel, earlier on Sunday, defeated the Dutch and secured the top spot.

Bulgaria, who have now dropped to 0-5 in the group, came out on Sunday determined to celebrate their first victory in front of their home crowd and edged ahead 23-18 at the end of the opening quarter.

Pavlin Ivanov drilled a triple early in the second frame to extend the hosts' lead to 26-18, when Montenegro decided they were not willing to trail any longer.

Vladimir Golubovic, with a hook-shot 4:59 from the half-time break, sparked a fantastic four-minute stretch for Montenegro, which finished with the same player concluding a 17-0 run that brought the guests ahead 41-30.

Bulgaria reduced the gap to 41-34 in the dying seconds of the first half, but Montenegro would never abolish the lead again.

A final push by the Bulgarians enabled them to come within two points, 63-61, early in the fourth but Aleksa Popovic sunk a triple and Vladimir Dragicevic followed up with a basket from close range to restore a 68-61 lead for Montenegro, 6:09 from the final buzzer.

Montenegro held on with relative comfort until the end and even increased the point differential to 11 points in the closing seconds.

Taylor Rochestie paced the winners with 17 points while Sead Sehovic and Golubovic scored 15 points apiece, the latter also grabbing 10 rebounds to complete a double-double.

For Bulgaria, Aleksandar Vezenkov finished with 17 points and seven rebounds and Ivanov added 16 points in losing efforts.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes: Bulgaria vs. Montenegro

Georgi Mladenov, Head Coach Bulgaria
"We miss a lot of quality. We lose our concentration in key moments. The result was 30-24 for us and then the team of Montenegro did 17-0. We miss the team game. We don't have such experienced and great players who can afford to decide on their own what to do and to play alone. We had problems in rebounding again. We played good in the first quarter - we had 7 rebounds and the Montenegrin team had 1, we played as a team, we shot well... We need time. Time will give this team experience. We have 8 players that are for the first time in the national team."

Bozhidar Avramov, Bulgaria
"It is important that we had the will to play. We were motivated to play for the fans. We are thankful to the people that came to support us. We are really young team, we don't have experience. I think we missed our chances in this group, but it was a really hard one."

Nemanja Radovic, Montenegro
"It was a tough game for us and a very important one. We had two losses in the previous games, so it was very difficult for us. All of us wanted to win. Bulgaria is a good team, very disciplined. We had to give 100 percent to take the win."

Luca Pavicevic, Head Coach Montenegro
"There was big pressure on us to win. This game was a preparation for us for the last game in this group against Netherlands. For us it was really important to win, so the imperative against Holland is 6 points. 6 points is a lot against Netherlands. It is hard to beat them and much harder to win against them with more points. So the game here was very important for us. We were a little bit nervous. We played a strong game. But we allowed Bulgaria to come close with nervous mistakes. We understand that Bulgaria had a difficult summer. We are satisfied that we won and we are going forward to fulfill our dream - to qualify for Eurobasket."
