GAME REPORT

Estonia To Meet Bulgaria In Final

14. Kristjan Kangur (Estonia)
Kristjan Kangur led Estonia with a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double

Estonia overturned a six-point first-leg deficit in the semi-finals with a 79-61 win over Belarus at home on Sunday and will meet Bulgaria in the final of the EuroBasket 2015 1st Qualification Round.

The Estonians had lost 76-70 in the first game of the tie on the road last Thursday but their 18-point Sunday win means they have defeated Belarus 149-137 on aggregate.

The winning team in the final clash between Bulgaria and Estonia, which will also be played over two legs, will earn a direct ticket to EuroBasket 2015 in Ukraine.

On Sunday, Estonia took a firm grip on proceedings almost from tip-off but they only led 37-31 at the half-time buzzer and it wasn't until the second half that they built their first double-digit lead.

It came courtesy of two back-to-back triples within just 31 seconds from Gregor Arbet, who made it 47-33 for the hosts with 4:51 remaining in the third quarter.

Belarus reacted and came close to reducing the gap back to the critical six-point threshold, but their tendency to turn the ball over proved crucial.

Estonia stole the ball on eight occasions and forced their guests to 16 turnovers during the encounter, out of which they scored 17 vital points.

Siim-Sander Vene both initiated and capped an 8-0 Estonian run midway through the fourth frame that extended the gap to 15 points, 63-48, when there was only 4:38 left to play in the game, and Belarus would not manage to come any closer to their hosts again until the final buzzer.

Power forward Kristjan Kangur paved the way for the winners with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds and Sten Sokk added 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Veteran shooting guard Aliaksandr Kudrautsau finished with a game-high 22 points for Belarus in a losing effort.
