GAME REPORT

Hungary Falter At Home

14. Aliaksandr Kudrautsau (Belarus)
Aliaksandr Kudrautsau was clinical for Belarus, confirming the win with a jump shot with just over a minute remaining

Belarus broke the Group D deadlock with 63-61 road win against Hungary in the EuroBasket 2015 1st Qualification Round on Saturday.

Both teams, along with Slovak Republic, were locked with 1-1 records after their first two games.

But Belarus won this nail-biter in which the final four shots were all missed.

Aliaksandr Kudrautsau connected on the all-important jump shot to give Belarus the lead with 1:04 remaining.

This followed a 6-0 Hungarian run to level things up, thanks to four points from Balázs Simon and two from Gergely Tóth.

Hungary then had their chances to win it after Kudrautsau's go-ahead jumper but Krisztián Wittmann would not add to his 17-point total as he missed two and three-point attempts in the final minute after Kudrautsau and Artsiom Parakhouski misfired for Belarus.

The game had been a tight affair from the outset as Belarus led 13-12 at the end of the first quarter and only reached 32-28 at the half.

The biggest Belarusian advantage was 14 at 52-38 in the closing stages of the third period but a 17-6 Hungarian run capped by a fantastic David Vojvoda three on the fast-break, brought the hosts back to 58-55 inside the last three-and-a-half minutes.

Kudrautsau came up big once again with a three in response and from there on in, it was clear it would be Belarus' night.

Vitali Liutych led the scoring with 21 for Belarus as Parakhouski topped up with 12 while Vojvoda had 19 for Hungary.

Hungary head for the Slovak Republic to play their next game on Tuesday before Belarus host the Slovaks to finish Group D action.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Hungary vs. Belarus

Belarus Head Coach Ruslan Baydakov
"It was a tough win for us. We lost in Slovakia, so this was our only option. I have to say we made this win because of that loss in Slovakia."

Belarus Player Artsiom Parakhouski
"Thank you to Hungary for the great hospitality. It was important to win here, so I'm satisfied."

Hungary head Coach Sztojan Ivkovics
"We made too many mistakes. We are a young team, so we continue to work hard to build our new and more successful team."

Hungary player Zsolt Szabo
"We could not concentrate for 40 minutes. Our offence was weak today, that's the main reason of our loss."
