GAME REPORT

Swiss Cruise To Second Victory

Dusan Mladjan (Switzerland)
Dusan Mladjan and Switzerland recorded their second win in as many games

Switzerland did their homework early at Luxembourg and return home with a 75-57 victory to set up a crucial clash with fellow unbeaten side Austria in Group C of the EuroBasket 2015 1st Qualification Round.

The Swiss grabbed the initiative right from tip-off on Sunday against Luxembourg and reached the half-time buzzer leading their hosts 45-27.

While Switzerland did not protect the ball much better than Luxembourg, they had the astuteness to make the most of the home side's mistakes and scored 20 points off turnovers.

The Swiss also controlled the battle on the glass (42-33 rebounds) and shot much better from two-point range, 53.6 percent to Luxembourg's 37.8 percent.

They kept on pushing after the start of the second half until they extended their lead to 26 points, 57-31, midway through the third quarter.

Luxembourg however, as they had shown in their opening game in the group against Austria, are a side who will fight with whatever means they have at their disposal until the final buzzer.

They managed to reduce the point differential to 13 points in the final frame, before Switzerland scored the final six points in the encounter to take the gap back to 18.

Winger Dusan Mladjan led the winners with 18 points while Clint Capela had a near double-double of 12 points and nine rebounds and Roberto Kovac added 11 points.

For Luxembourg, forward Samy Picard finished with 18 points and seven rebounds in defeat.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Luxembourg vs. Switzerland

Luxembourg Head Coach Karsten Schul:
"We were dominated physically, as it was the case in Austria in our first game. Unfortunately we didn't manage to play our game for 40 minutes. We had some good periods. We want to play attractive basketball for the spectators and hope to do this in the next game against Denmark on Wednesday."

Luxembourg Player Laurent Majerus:
"It's a pity; we always have periods during which we are not playing our game. But we are ready to face Denmark - everything is possible on Wednesday."

Switzerland Head Coach Petar Aleksic:
"Congratulations to my team; it's an important win for us. We played excellent for three quarters and very aggressive. During the last quarter we let Luxembourg play their game and we received some easy points. We are playing for the first place and so we did our job today."

Switzerland Player Dusan Mladjan:
"We started this game very well and could keep our advantage of 20 points until the end of the game. It's an important victory for us - we are playing for the first place in the group."
