GAME REPORT

Estonia Edge Out The Netherlands

14. Kristjan Kangur (Estonia)
Kristjan Kangur  came up big for Estonia, hitting a decisive three to give Estonia the first win of their campaign
Estonia's Kristjan Kangur inflicted the Netherlands' with their first defeat of the EuroBasket 2015 1st Qualification Round by hitting the decisive three-pointer in a 64-63 home win.

The Dutch were undefeated heading into Saturday's trip to Tallinn but Estonia pegged them back to 2-1 and improved their own record to 1-2 in dramatic fashion.

The hosts came out hot and raced into a 30-18 lead at the end of the first period behind Tanel Sokk's late lay-up.

The lead was up to 44-30 at half-time but the Netherlands were about to bite back.

Worthy De Jong's dunk towards the end of the third quarter fired up the visitors and what followed was a 20-3 tear, which would have the Netherlands 59-54 in front with less than six minutes to play.

Estonia rallied and responded with a 7-0 sequence of their own, including another four points for Sokk, as they reclaimed the lead at 61-59.

This advantage lasted until the final 52 seconds when Sean Cunningham hit from beyond the arc, after corralling a rebound at the other end, as the momentum shifted once more.

But Kangur countered with the crucial three just nine seconds later and the Netherlands wasted the opportunity to level, missing three of four free throws in the closing 34 seconds.

Dutchman De Jong was the top scorer with 16 plus 12 rebounds in a losing effort while Rain Veideman scored 15 for Estonia.

Estonia face the 1-1 Portugal in an away tie on Tuesday before the Dutch close the group at home to Portugal on Friday.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Estonia vs. Netherlands

Estonia Head Coach Tiit Sokk
"We played well in the first half, but then they came back into the game. They were powerful under the basket."

Estonia Player Janar Talts
"It was a difficult game, but we won. [Kristjan] Kangur was playing again today - it is easier to play when he is on the court."

Netherlands Head Coach Toon Van Helfteren
"It's too bad that we lost. We missed seven straight free-throws. I would like to compliment my team because we fought back. If you lose by one, then the missed free-throws hurt.

Netherlands Player Worthy De Jong

"It was a tough game. We started bad. Our defence wasn't there on the first half. The second half was successful. Too bad that we lost the game."
